Black Summer - DLLorenzo Review

Black Summer - DLLorenzo Review

So after the success of  the walking dead and many other zombie television series and movies, Netflix has jumped on board to bring out its own dark and gritty Zombie series.

Less comical than Z nation (done by the Asylum who produced this) Santa Clarita Diet and iZombie all Netflix products, Black Summer brings a dark and gritty take on the Zombie apocalypse and brings a depressing realism to how life may be like if the dead were to walk the earth.

Similar in a bleak setting to Dawn of the Dead (2004's) by Zack Snyder the series starts off with rumours of the coming undead as families are whisked off for transport by the US army and when the undead hits its a forcible punch to the senses!

Also for the zombie lovers out there think Zack Snyder/Danny Boyle - fast, aggressive zombies chasing noises and movement! The TV series looks dark and bleak, the zombies look incredible and the deaths and effects are awesome.

I was thrilled when I heard Netflix were going with a dark, gritty take on the zombie genre and was amazed by the trailer it looked bleak, dark and gritty something that at the time I didnt know I needed to watch.

Now as its Netflix they've dropped every episode of the series on the 11th of April and this idiot here has already watched all the episodes.

At first we dont now what started the virus but we see how desperate everyone already is as they are given prior notice by the US military and start to evacuate civilians on to military vehicles in the first episode, having to get medically checked out before they can evacuate. People have even seen the zombies prior to this evacuation so this bodes that we may see this in flashbacks.

This is where the show starts and we are then introduced to all of the characters and told a brief version of their stories. This can be very much like the walking dead or game of thrones as it is with tv series these days as characters you start to like and understand could be killed off

During the episodes we see how the people react to the zombie invasion and how people are now starting to form groups as civilsation separates. We see the group form up through their own stories and each episode has several chapters which allow you to wonder what the title means.

The characters all have their own backgrounds which are investigated throughout the episodes but much is waiting for season 2.

DLLorenzo Review 4/5

After watching all the episodes, I thought the series was actually quite good and I cannot wait for the second season.

My standout episode is Episode 4 with Lance (the bearded geeky character I can relate to)

Definitely check it out its a bit of fresh air with all of the walking dead and other zombie movies.
