RedCon-1 DLLorenzo Movie Review

RedCon-1 DLLorenzo Movie Review

So bought this a while back loved the trailer when it first dropped and enthusiastically wanted to go see the movie in cinemas where it was having a limited release but sadly nothing showing in Wales!

So the movie is a new action take on the zombie genre directed by Chee Keong Cheung and produced by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles original co-creator Kevin Eastman.

Redcon-1 (also known as Redcon-1 Army of the Dead) is a 2018 British Action Horror film starring Katarina Waters, Mark Strange and Carlos Gallardo. The film was released in the UK September 28th, 2018.

Redcon-1 centers around a joint British-American Special Forces team sent into the British quarantine zone, the zombie virus has hit and the country is on lockdown. Their mission is to track and extract a scientist who they believe may have started the zombie virus with his experiments, their task is to find him and also deal with the infected, who are beginning to learn!

2/5 from DLLorenzo

See I liked the look of this action style zombie movie from the trailer, but when I got to see it I found the movie lacking. Heres a few things I noticed during the movie and a Good and Bad List:

The Good:

  • The Action - was surprisingly good and shot well - maybe even could have thrown in a POV scene (Point Of View) and were quite dramatized like an action movie should be

  • For a low- budget film it actually looked really good and looked awesome in the trailer but sadly the movie didn't live up to expectations

The Bad:

  • Acting and characters - the acting was hammy and poor and you didn't really get to know some of the characters during the movie and didn't care what happens to them.
  • The movie was too long - action scene, zombies, drama, mission action, zombie REPEAT was the chain of events for 2 hours.
  • The plot wasn't original and became confused the longer the movie went on, with twists and turns. What they should have done is focus on the action scenes, making the zombies simpler and scarier and making a flowing plotline and focus on the characters.
  • The Zombies, where to start, so these are a brand of Zombies that have started to become intelligent...nothing groundbreaking there its been done before but these zombies now are planning traps and using guns....nope sorry...Romero did it well in The Land of the Dead, Day of the dead, and even Survival of the Dead - this was a producer and director trying to do something unique and different...it didn't work. You had a mixed bag of different zombies all doing very random stuff, one's watching porn, etc BUT these are meant to be aggressive zombies and during fight scenes, zombies were waiting like animals waiting to pounce and or when in contact were throwing punches and kicks.... the best zombie movies make the zombies absolutely swarm their targets. Sadly not original and trying to be different made it worse.
