So here it is the Harley Quinn kind of spin-off called The Birds of Prey movie. It's title changed a few times but eventually became the Birds of Prey " and the fantabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn", Harley Quinn - Birds Of Prey OR just Birds Of Prey! it's the 8th movie in the Warner Bros/DC universe and acts as a follow up and spin off of the Suicide Squad Movie (2016) please see my review: https://dllorenzo.blogspot.com/2017/11/suicide-squad-dllorenzo-version.html

The film follows Harley Quinn after Suicide Squad, as she joins forces with Helena Bertinelli, Dinah Lance, Detective Renee Montoya to help find and save Cassandra Cain from Gotham City Crime Lord Black Mask!
Following from Harley Quinn's last appearance as the Joker's main squeeze and one of the most dangerous ladies in Gotham, life has hit Harley hard as she's split from the Joker following Suicide Squad and lost all of her connections! Roman Sionis, a Gotham City crime lord is after a rare gem, Helena Bertinelli is on a killing spree, Dinah Lance works as a singer in Roman's base, Renee Montoya is a hard nosed detective of the GCPD and Cassandra Cain is a sticky fingered youngster on the streets!

OK so I genuinely think this is a good action/comedy movie, a decent Popcorn movie as critics and people mention online. Basically if you google it " a film that is perceived as entertaining but lacking in depth or artistic merit. "this summer's roster of big-budget popcorn movies"
So let me talk about the good things of the movie, I love the action scenes and the comedy, some of the characters are a joy to watch on the big screen and some should have had more time on there. The action scenes and the humour are the best things of this movie, despite its title the movie in my opinion is more Harley Quinn the movie with the Birds of prey tagging along in the adventure!
The movie is a follow up to the suicide squad movie and puts Harley Quinn in the main role, the blonde haired, tattooed, colourful, funny and twisted character who we all developed an interest in after her showing in Suicide squad. She is one of the better characters in this movie as Margot Robbie has already had a chance to establish her character and gets to further develop her character!
You have Ewan Mcgregor's Roman Sionis, the infamous Black Mask, a Crime Lord in Gotham City! He was actually quite good, deranged and quite crazy with his second in-command Victor Zsasz even crazier and covered in scars. You also have the awkwardly funny Huntress in Helena Bertinelli!
As said earlier, the action scenes and the comedy were the best parts of the movie with a host of colourful characters and locations! Loved some of Harley's fight scenes, it was rumoured that Cathy Yan arranged for the John Wick fight coordinator to re-shoot some fight scenes!
The bad, I didn't think the script was amazing, it follows a simple and obvious ending and felt the characters were really underused, I wanted to see more of Roman Sionis/Black Mask and the Huntress and even see more of Bruce, Harley's CGI Hyena.
The actual Birds Of Prey not the best team up, just an attempt to form the first properly female led team! DC should have gone bigger and better! Some people mentioned Poison Ivy, Catwoman or Batgirl with Huntress! Who knows for future movies!
I know the overall response of Jared Leto's Joker wasnt popular but it still would have been cool to have him appear in the background similar to suicide squad...obviously if he had been the big bad in suicide squad. Here's hoping he appears in future DC movies as the psycho, gang leader clown for the DC cinematic universe!
